White Spot Disease (WSD) in shrimp, caused by the highly contagious White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV), is a severe viral infection that results in sudden and extremely high mortality (80–100%). The virus primarily affects the shrimp’s exoskeleton, causing characteristic white spots along with lethargy and loss of appetite. As no effective treatment is available, prevention through strong biosecurity measures and good farm management is critical.
